Job Description
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the African Programs Director is responsible for leading and managing a comprehensive array of programs that support the African Programs Division of Helping Children Worldwide. Currently African Programs include the Child Rescue Centre and Mercy Hospital in Bo, Sierra Leone. Working closely with the CRC Partnership of Churches, and the committee structure that supports both the CRC and Mercy Hospital, the Director will oversee the programmatic and financial aspects of African Programs within Helping Children Worldwide
The African Programs Director will be a seasoned professional providing leadership in planning and implementing strategic plans aligned with the organization's mission relating to African Programs. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of hands-on leadership experience in non-profit management. S/he must be a highly organized, strong leader and manager, be a critical strategic thinker and have the ability to work with a volunteer-based organization.
Skills & Qualifications
· BA Degree preferred plus five or more years of non-profit management experience
· Willingness to travel to Africa
· Organization: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals and track details, data information and activities
· Planning: Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement action plans and evaluate the process and results
· Decision Making: Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization
· Problem Solving: Assess problems to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions and make recommendations and/or resolve the issue
· Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
· Show Creativity/Innovation to improve communications and operations of the organization and to create new opportunities
• Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
